Assisi

We were just arriving in Assisi here. I had to pull over to the side of the road to snap this picture.

Just a little closer ...

The tower at the Basilica. We arrived here and telephoned Bruno Fontana. When he arrived,
we buzzed back to his place for a quick tour then a fabulous lunch at a local restaurant. After lunch we started the sight-seeing.

Colette with Alberto Falsinotti, the chef and owner of Il Medio Evo in Assisi.
He wanted us to stay for dinner on him at the restaurant, but it was getting late and
we have a two and a half hour drive back to San Gimignano. I'm crying as I write this because the resetaurant has a 3 knife & fork rating in the 1996 Michelin guide and we couldn't stay. The restaurant has wonderful interior and has a window in the floor that looks down into an archaelogical dig. Cool!

Colette with Bruno Fontana. Bruno is a friend of my dad's. He worked with the
World Bank for many years but now he's retired. He has 40 hectares on which he grows
olives. It's not particularly profitable, but he loves it. His house is wonderful. It's
made entirely of stone and it's hundreds of years old, I don't know how many but more than one!
