Sienna

This is the Piazza del Campo. On this field, divided into nine sectors, the Palio of Sienna is run every year. The Palio is the most famous Tuscan festival. A horse race is run in the piazza during which the attendees gather in the centre of the piazza and the horses run in a circle around it. The attendees gather with others from their home districts. So much so in fact that husbands and wives split up and join the others from their own districts for the duration.
